Chipping Sodbury during 2006

Yate and Chipping Sodbury, (Bristol, England) are situated at the southern end of the Cotswold Escarpment – home to Prince Charles (some 15 miles Northeast). Yate and Chipping Sodbury were part of Gloucestershire until 1974 when they became part of the newly formed county of Avon. However the world keeps spinning and in 1996 Avon was abolished and the area became part of South Gloucestershire.

Yate is a modern English town.

Chipping Sodbury is an old market town where once lived Edward Jenner – the first doctor to successfully vaccinate against smallpox.

JK Rowling the author of the Harry Potter Books was born in Chipping Sodbury.

The long running Mop Fair takes place in the medieval High Street twice a year. The spring Mop usually takes place over the last Friday and Saturday in March, and the Autumn Mop over the last Friday and Saturday in September.
